Our History
My name is Christina and I have had the opportunity to go hands on with many toys during my 19 years of parenting 5 children. I have lived in 7 states and Europe for three years. I have seen the good, the bad, and the ugly with toys. I have spoken to 1000s of moms and “played” with 1000s of toys. I have seen toy perspectives change over time as well as change based on where I was living. The differences on how toys are viewed or incorporated into children’s lives is different everywhere. One thing that rains supreme is most toys go to landfills and are quickly discarded once the interest levels of children have dropped. I saw so many toys being discarded or tossed. These toys don’t have meaning as they are not remembered. So many cheap toys are being sold online or retailer with zero emphasis on sustainability. I started saying “Love your children and Love your toys!” When you choose toys you love, you will have them forever. Not only having a toy that last the test of time but having a deep connection with the toy which as brought joy to your children and eventually their children.
I started The Baby Penguin to highlight the amazing sustainable toys and companies that chose to put our children, the environment, and our communities ahead of the bottom line.
My passion for toys grew to a blog and now an ecommerce store selling a highly curated collection of sustainable toys. I have been consulted a few times from several CEOs of major toy manufacturers asking my advice on everything from children to toys. I love advocating for toys! All these experiences have given me the knowledge and perspective to thoroughly evaluate all kinds of toys. I rate my toys on 5 essential categories: Versatility, Durability, Playability, Longevity, and Sustainability.
