My name is Christina, and over the past 20 years of raising five children, I’ve had the opportunity to see — and step on — thousands of toys. We’ve lived in seven different states and even spent three years living in Europe, and everywhere we lived, I noticed something interesting: how families think about toys is very different depending on where you are.
But one thing was the same everywhere.
Most toys don’t last.
Most toys are quickly forgotten.
And most toys end up in landfills.
I saw so many toys get played with for a few weeks and then tossed aside, broken, forgotten, or replaced by the next new thing. These toys didn’t mean anything. They weren’t remembered. They didn’t become part of childhood memories.
That’s when I started saying:
“Love your children and love your toys.”
When you choose toys you truly love — toys that are well made, imaginative, and built to last — they stay in your home for years. They get passed down to siblings, cousins, and even the next generation. They become part of your family’s story.
That idea eventually became The Baby Penguin.

I started The Baby Penguin to highlight companies that are doing things the right way — companies that put children, the environment, and communities ahead of the bottom line.
What started as a blog reviewing sustainable toys grew into a curated store focused on toys that are:
Over time, I’ve had the opportunity to speak with thousands of parents about toys and even consult with toy manufacturers about what children actually need from toys and play.
Through all of this, I developed a simple way to evaluate every toy.

Every toy in The Baby Penguin is evaluated on five essential categories:
Versatility – Can the toy be used in multiple ways?
Durability – Will the toy last for years?
Playability – Will children actually play with it?
Longevity – Will the child grow with the toy?
Sustainability – Is it made responsibly and safely?
If a toy doesn’t meet these standards, we don’t carry it.
